As a intern in a team with varying time zones, flexibility and time management were paramount. While working for EBLI and CHABRI, I had to start looking for the right grants which would help these organizations grow.

My journey began with extensive research to identify grants that aligned with the visions and objectives of CHABRI and EBLI. To achieve this, I utilized online databases, grant directories, and government websites to access a comprehensive list of potential funding sources.

Moreover, I reached out to my fellow colleagues who had previously secured grants for similar initiatives. Their advice and recommendations proved invaluable in streamlining my search, enabling me to focus on the most relevant funding options.

Crafting compelling grant proposals required a deep understanding of both CHABRI and EBLI’s objectives. The first week!

Hello, everyone!

I’m excited to provide you with an update on my internship journey. It has been a week since I started, and I must say it has been an incredible learning experience so far. To begin, I had the opportunity to introduce myself to Benard, our community partner, through an online platform. Additionally, I connected with the two interns based in Tanzania, who are working on-site.

Our team comprises two remote interns, including myself, and two interns on-site. Despite having slightly different projects, we have already fostered a collaborative environment, supporting and assisting one another whenever needed.

In our initial meeting, Benard shared his expectations for the internship and provided us with valuable resources. He updated us on the current operations of EFBL (Education for Better Living) and the ongoing grant applications. Together, we outlined a comprehensive plan and set clear goals to achieve during the course of our internship.

One of the challenges we’ve encountered is working remotely and coordinating across different time zones. It hasn’t always been easy to contact the on-site interns or find suitable meeting times. However, we have successfully addressed some of these communication issues by utilizing WhatsApp, a platform that works well for everyone involved.

Looking ahead, our team is preparing for the upcoming week’s discussion with Benard. We aim to determine the project’s priorities and allocate responsibilities accordingly. This is crucial in ensuring that we align with the company’s objectives and that each intern has an appropriate workload.

When I applied for the internship at Western Heads East a few months ago, I couldn’t contain my excitement as I eagerly awaited the outcome. As an international student from Dubai, being selected for this opportunity at Western University has been a dream come true. Since arriving in Canada in September 2021, I have been immersing myself in the rich academic and cultural environment, and this internship is a perfect extension of my journey.

I am thrilled to be part of a diverse team and to contribute to the impactful work of Western Heads East. Although the internship is remote, I am determined to overcome any challenges that come my way.
